Angela's Fine Jewelry Portland-Colbalt Connecticut Biography

Angela Gutt (pronounced "goot") was born and raised to young adulthood in Hong Kong and immigrated to America in the early '70's. She married and became an American Citizen on October 1975.

Angela has been in the jewelry business for almost 30 years. In 1972, she started as inventory control clerk for an established retailer jeweler in Manchester, Connecticut. In 1977, the manager of the store recognized her remarkable attention to detail and keen eye for quality. Not long after he encouraged her to go work for a prestigious jewelry company that provided restoration and more sophisticated services to jewelry concerns all over Connecticut and the United States. Angela's work there increased her already sharp antique restoration skills. During that period, Angela had the rare opportunity to learn from some of the most gifted and well-trained jewelry craftspeople in the business. Promoted to shop manager, Angela enjoyed tremendous success managing valuable work.

From 1987 to 1989, Angela worked as a wholesaler for the family's jewelry business in Hong Kong, where a great deal of traveling and essential business experience were her rewards. In 1989, Angela met her husband David, opened a jewelry store in downtown Hartford. It was then that she discovered the joy of creating and crafting her own unique designs, whether they be items incorporating unique gemstones or entirely new pieces re-fashioned from valuable estate jewelry or outdated settings.

The part Angela has enjoyed the most, however, over her many years in the retail jewelry business, has been getting to know the customers. These long-term relationships, grown out of mutual trust, respect for all people and delivery of consistently superior product are a testimony to her exacting skill, engaging personality and artistry. Angela attributes her accomplishments and happiness to the privilege of coming to America, the land of freedom.
